Quilted Ecologies

Fall 2021

Instructor: Omar Ali

(partner project with Jose Varela)

In this masterplan scenario for a downtown Kansas City site that lacks density, green space, and character, a new urban grid is derived from existing ecologies such as topography, rain runoff, and wind. Diverging from the pre-established city grid allows the built and natural environment to be bound together, facilitating water movement throughout the site and forming a protective barrier to keep prevailing winds out.
