Jefferson Island Environmental Education Center
Fall 2020
Professor Cordula Roser
The mineral resources and natural beauty of Jefferson Island have led to a complex geological, economic, and cultural history. It is located above a salt dome and abandoned mine shaft and was partially formed by a massive sinkhole in a 1980 drilling disaster. Using Mies Van De Rohe’s Neue Nationalgalerie as a precedent, the proposal for this environmental education center was designed after researching, interpreting, and modeling of the site.
