Eco-Extension
Fall 2021 | Instructor: Omar Ali
Situated within the Kansas City masterplan, between a designated eco-boulevard and a park, this proposed ecological community center similarly attempts to bind the natural and the built worlds. The building is bisected by the site’s natural slope, which shapes both its form and function. Interior circulation follows a series of ramps that mimic the terrain, guiding visitors through communal spaces dedicated to the education and celebration of the region’s indigenous cultures, vegetation, and wildlife. Light wells penetrate the building, creating a more dynamic and immersive learning environment. On the exterior, a stairway running the length of the building serves as both a public gathering space and a transition into the adjacent park.
