Woven Park

Spring 2021

Professor Carrie Norman

Woven Park introduces two great civic institutions to the block: the park and the library. Basketball courts, a soccer field, a skatepark, sand volleyball, an amphitheater, mini-golf, bocce, patio space, a fountain area, and food trucks all help to create a visually rich and vibrant atmosphere of non stop activity on the street level. All of the action is thoughtfully intertwined with private life, which floats 16 feet above. Here, inhabitants may choose to withdraw to spaces that are both intimate and close to the life of the community. The hope is that outside of the living space people cross paths often and never feel isolated. Common spaces exist in the form of libraries, where residents can enjoy quiet repose and nurture their minds. Although close to the rest of the city, many needs of the inhabitants are provided by the tightly knit community on the block.
